Humble Beginnings

Hello! My name is Henry Palmer. Welcome to my first blog post. Mostly, this will be about a random assortment of whatever I might feel like talking about. From gear to opinions on pretty much anything related to the camera industry, I have got an opinion on it.

But, let’s start with the meaning of the post cover. That’s me sitting in the grass taking pictures of my dog, Bandit. At the time, I obviously had no idea that something as simple as taking pictures of my dog would eventually turn into such a huge part of my life. I wasn’t thinking about cinematography, color, lighting, lenses, or any of the things I obsess over now. I just wanted to take some pictures of him.

I think that’s part of why I love this photo so much. It wasn’t staged to represent the beginning of anything. It just happened to be the beginning.

Over time, taking pictures turned into taking videos. Taking videos turned into wanting them to look better. Then I started caring about cameras, lenses, lighting, editing, color grading, composition, and all the little things that go into making an image feel like something instead of just documenting it.

And now this is also the first post on my first website.

I have no idea exactly what this blog is going to turn into. I’m sure I’ll talk about cameras way too much. I’ll probably give opinions nobody asked for, write about things I’m learning, talk about projects I’m working on, and occasionally talk about whatever has my attention that week. But I think it’ll be fun to have somewhere to document all of it.

And if I ever need a reminder of where it started, I have a picture of myself sitting in the grass with a camera and my dog.
